Kevin J. Thompson, a 38-year-old man from New Orleans who is in a relationship with Earl Thomas’ ex-wife, Nina Thomas, was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in June for stealing Thomas’ identity in an alleged $1.9 million scheme.

He faces charges for identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud, and bank fraud. According to Nola.com, Thompson is accused of cashing Thomas’ NFL checks, stealing from his bank account, and transferring car ownership for several of Thomas’ vehicles.

Thompson used a fake driver’s license to open an account in Thomas’ name at Jefferson Federal Credit Union in May 2022. Over the next year, Thompson moved at least $700,000 from Thomas’ accounts into phony accounts and withdrew cash from the credit union, including a $50,000 withdrawal in May 2023.

Thompson also deposited the player’s NFL checks into fraudulent accounts and stole a large amount of money from the player’s retirement account. Additionally, Thompson transferred ownership of several vehicles owned by Thomas and sold them, pocketing the cash.

The scam was discovered when Thomas’ credit union in Texas contacted officials at Jefferson Financial in June to notify them about the suspicious activity. Thompson was arrested on June 9, 2023, and released on a $730,000 bond. Federal investigators are also involved in the case, and additional charges are possible.

Thomas’ wife was arrested in April 2020 for pointing a gun at Earl’s head after catching him in an affair with another woman. She later filed for divorce in November. In 2021, Thomas was arrested for unlawful weapon possession, which was later dismissed after he agreed to surrender the weapon.

Last year, he was arrested for multiple protective order violations, including alleged threatening text messages toward his wife and children. One month before Thompson’s alleged identity theft crimes, Thomas told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he was ready to make an NFL comeback, which has not materialized.
